John Hall candidate for Maryland bishop

John HallCHANDLER -  The Rev. Dr. John Hall, of St. Matthew's, Chandler, has been nominated as a candidate in the election of the 14th Bishop of the Diocese of Maryland. A portion of the letter he wrote to his parish on Jan 8 says:

"After many months of discernment, the Search Committee of the Diocese of Maryland is announcing its slate of candidates for the next Bishop of Maryland. I want you to know that I have been nominated as a candidate along with several other Episcopal priests from across the country. On March 29, 2008, delegates from the Diocese of Maryland will gather in a special convention in Baltimore to cast their votes for their new Bishop. Then, on June 28, 2008, the one they elect will be consecrated the 14th Bishop of Maryland."

Please keep the candiates and the Diocese of Maryland in prayer as they gather on Saturday at St. James' Church, Lafayette Square in Baltimore.

Gluten-free wafers available in Phoenix

PHOENIX - Sts. Sergius & Bacchus Circle of Integrity is supporting Trinity Cathedral's inclusion ministry by providing gluten-free wafers. "We actually bake these in house at Trinity Cathedral on a regular basis," said Ian Chamberlin. "Our baking environment is thoroughly prepared and cleaned to ensure that not only is it sanitized but also that it is free of gluten or other allergens." Currently they are baking about 10 wafers per month.

They would like to offer their ministry to parishes in the Phoenix Metro area who may need gluten-free wafers to provide Holy Eucharist to people who are celiac or gluten intolerant. Ingredients are: rice flour, potato flour, tapioca flour, and water. No other ingredients are used.

Currently they will provide and hand deliver wafers to parishes in the Phoenix Metro area without cost. Please contact Chamberlin at either ian.chamberlin@integrityssb.org or (602) 366-5360 for more information.

A Final Thought

Archbishop Rowan Williams is not the easiest writer to understand. His prose is dense and has to be read over slowly a few times. A case is point is this passage from his book, Resurrection. But hang on tight, it is worth the ride!

To the best of my knowledge, every single church, mission, and preaching station within the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona now has a very basic website. Please go to www.azdiocese.org/map/list.html and check your church's website and its posted information and let me know of any changes that need to be made.

If you encounter any communication problems, please report it to me at greta@azdiocese.org.

Bishop Kirk S. SmithThe Holy Week reports from parishes around the Diocese are coming in and they seem to have a theme in common: Large (sometimes record-breaking) attendance for Easter Day services. As for Good Friday, well, generally not so hot.
